New capacity will offer faster, more accessible cancer care to patients closer to home
MISSISSAUGA, ON (August 21, 2025) – Cancer patients in the Mississauga Halton Central West region will soon benefit from the Province of Ontario’s approval to expand radiation treatment services at Trillium Health Partners’ Credit Valley Hospital.
The project will add three new Halcyon radiation treatment machines and one orthovoltage machine to the Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre at Credit Valley Hospital. These machines are highly advanced technology that use precise, targeted radiation therapy to destroy cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue.
With this expansion, the centre will be able to treat more than 7,200 patients each year – a 71% increase from current levels. This will help meet the needs of this rapidly growing region. For patients, that means shorter wait times, less need to travel to other cities for care, and the comfort of receiving treatment closer to home.

The Carlo Fidani Regional Cancer Centre is the only centre providing radiation treatment in the Mississauga Halton Central West region, which is home to one of the fastest growing and most diverse communities in Ontario. As demand for radiation treatment continues to rise, this approval will help alleviate pressure on existing services, reduce the need for patient transfers to cancer centres outside the region, and strengthen sustainable cancer care services close to home.

All three new Halcyon LINACs, along with the Orthovoltage machine, are expected to be fully operational by 2028, with procurement beginning this fall and construction anticipated to start in 2026.

- The MHCW region has seen a 25% population increase over the past decade and expects 40% growth between 2021-2041.
- Trillium Health Partners currently treats more radiation patients per LINAC machine than any other cancer centre in Ontario.
- This announcement also includes a new Orthovoltage machine, which will improve efficiency by shifting some skin cancer treatments off LINACs.
